M. L. King School Closing
On Tuesday, January 19th, the District announced its intention of closing of the Martin Luther King Jr. School in Hartford's Upper Albany neighborhood. The school will be phased out over the next few years, with the building officially closing at the end of the 2013 school year.
The closing comes as a result of the "age and excessive repair" needed by the building. The announcement was delivered to parents and community members at the school late in the afternoon. Students who would normally be given first preference to MLK school will be given first preference to two other elementary schools nearby, the Global Communications Academy and Achievement First Hartford charter school.
